Energy Efficiency- What does this mean?
Being Energy Efficient is a hot topic these days, you can’t miss all the advertising we see on a daily basis about how to be energy efficient and the simple things we can do in our own homes each day.
What does it mean to be truly energy efficient?
According to Wikipedia Energy efficiency is using less energy to provide the same level of energy service.
So what if you are building a new home? How can you be more energy efficient?
One way to be energy efficient is thru the Energy Star Program. If your builder is an energy star builder they should build using a variety of features such as; Tight Construction and Ducts, Effective Insulation, Efficient Heating and Cooling Equipment, High Performance Windows, Energy efficient lighting, ventilation and appliances, and also go thru an Independent Testing process.
The Independent Testing process is one of the most crucial items your builder should go thru in order to be an Energy Star builder. This process allows the builder to partner up with Energy Star by going thru a verification process after your home has been built. An Energy star rater actually conducts an onsite inspection and testing to verify the performance of energy efficiency within your new home. Be sure to visit us at www.mccaulhomes.com for more information on the Energy Star program, as we are a 5+ Energy Star builder.

Whether you are settling into your new home or have lived there for years there are lots of things you can do to change its appearance. Maybe you are getting your home ready to sell or maybe you just want to update that Living Room and now is the time to do it.
Adding a splash of color to your home’s interior is easy to do and very inexpensive. It can change the entire dynamic of a room in a drastic or if you are not that adventurous a subtle way.
Here are some recommendations for adding that splash of color to your home’s interior
1. Pick one room to focus on at a time
2. If you are preparing your home to sell, make sure you pick a color that is more neutral. Instead of your favorite color bright purple, maybe choose a subtle lavender
3. Paint just one accent wall. This will give you a great splash of color in the room without it being too overwhelming. A word of caution, if you’re other walls are a softer tone stick with a soft tone for the accent wall, you don’t want too much of a contrast
4. Choose softer colors for smaller rooms, bathrooms, spare bedrooms, it will help the space to appear larger. Darker colors tend to close in a room and make it feel smaller.
5. Make sure you choose an Eggshell paint. This is a washable paint and will stand the test of time.

Why Should I Build a Townhome or Villa?
Our ideas of a home are quickly changing, as they have throughout time. Once it was a Farm or Plantation you built and owned. With Cities came single family homes, apartment complexes, condominiums, and more recently Townhome’s and Villas.
So what is the difference between a Townhome and a Villa?
A Townhome is a home that it built usually with two units or homes joined with a common wall, both single family homes. A Villa is a single unit home which is typically on a smaller scale than your average home.
What are some of the Advantages to Building a Townhome or a Villa?
One of the greatest advantages to a Townhome or a Villa is no maintenance for your lawn or snow removal. In a Townhome or a Villa you are the homeowner. There is an association that is made up of the developer and the homeowners that a monthly or quarterly due is paid to. This fee is used for ground maintenance including mowing, trimming, chemical treatments and snow removal.
Another advantage to a Townhome or a Villa is the leisure that comes with ownership. Whether it be travel or extra hours at the office, you can essentially lock your door and leave, knowing your lawn will be mowed while you are gone and if it snows that is taken care of as well.

Your home is your largest investment. It is not only important to care for the interior of your home, but it is also important to care for the exterior of your home. The old adage still holds true, “ You never get a second chance to make a first impression”.
If you are selling your home or thinking about selling your home in the future, take a look at these 10 tips for adding curb appeal to your home.
1. Keep your lawn mowed and neatly edged
2. Make sure your front doors and shutters are the same color
3. Give your home a fresh coat of paint if it is chipped or faded
4. Check all your outdoor lighting to make sure all is in working order
5. Freshen up your mulched areas with a layer of new mulch
6. Use potted plants or planters on your deck or front stoop area to add dimension or a splash of color
7. Organize your garage or shed and clean them thoroughly so they are not only neat, but to make them appear larger.
8. Re-paint or touch up decks and fences. Peeling paint will make a prospective home owner think that the first thing they will have to do when they move in is re-paint.
9. Dead head (cut off) spent blooms on your annual flowers. This will keep your home surrounded by fresh and blooming flowers.
10. Remove debris and clutter from the yard. A clean and clutter free yard is a key to a positive first impression.
